This moth and many other insects were viewed at the Birds of Vermont Museum during the July 11, 2026, Vermont Entomology Society annual bug-and-butterfly walk.  The participants included: Laurie*, Bernie, Michael, Melissa, Jenny (1st time), Maeve (birding), Miranda (Pre-school teacher/summer camp), Aubrie (sp?), Jennifer, John, Don, Mitch (Studied Entomology in Hawaii), Maureen and Maida (noticed the FPF ad), Eve, Jeannette, Dylan**, Josh, Denise, Sarah, Baylynn, Arabella, and two others names not recalled. *(Laurie specialties: Dragonflies; edible/medicinal plants).**Dylan is an intern for the BOVM, will be a junior at UVM this Fall.

The Bugs Are Putting on a Show

Tomorrow morning (7/11/2026) is one of my favorite summertime traditions, and I'd love to see some friends and neighbors there!

Join us for the annual Bugs & Butterflies Walk at the Birds of Vermont Museum, where the real stars aren't just the birds—they're also the tiny, dazzling creatures hiding in plain sight. Every flower head is an airport, every leaf a neighborhood, every patch of goldenrod a bustling metropolis.

We'll amble the museum grounds with naturalists and entomologists from the Vermont Entomological Society, searching for jeweled beetles, nectaring butterflies, industrious bees, dragonflies on patrol, curious katydids, and whatever marvelous insects decide to cross our path. 

No two walks are ever the same—that's the magic of the small wild.
