Metamorphism
A brick is but a brick
solid yes,
secure in its function
yet often looked upon
as only a brick.
When indeed a brick
is a cornerstone
a footprint
a pathway
a template
a start
as well as a finish (the last brick laid).
Much goes into even a single brick
never mind a structure built of bricks.
There is inspiration, formation, creation,
sweat, expense, shared knowledge, and joy in what is to be built upon.
Often only after layer upon layer
rises to the sky
and fills with people
do the many aspire
to the same vision
as those at the beginning
promoting a skyscraper
in the guise of
a single brick.
Building on and upon, enlarging, and engaging the audience interested in invertebrates.
